Gunman Opens Fire When He’s Barred Entry to Chicago House Party, 15 Shot – Crime Online

At least 15 people were shot, two of them critically, as a Halloween house party in southwest Chicago came to an end in the early hours Sunday.

Police said the gunman fled the scene but was captured nearby and taken into custody, WBBM reported. A handgun was recovered, they said.

A witness told WBBM that a man was barred from entering just after the DJ announced the party was ending.

“They told him he couldn’t come in, and he must have gone to his car and come back and started shooting,” said Andre Williams.

Police said the six women and nine men who were shot ranged in age from 26 to 53, WLS reported. The two critically injured victims were a 26-year-old woman and a 48-year-old man. Thirteen others were said to be in good condition.

Police did not provide names of the victims or the suspect. Charges are pending, they said.

WLS reported that the party was put on by three local comics at an art gallery.

Fellow comic Tywon Tunstall told the station it was a senseless act. “Stupid people with guns kill people,” he said.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson called for common sense gun laws, WBBM said.

“Sadly, mass casualty events like these are not exclusive to the City of Chicago,” he said in a statement. “This Halloween weekend alone, 11 people were killed in 12 mass shootings across the country from Tampa to Texarkana. This comes on the heels of last week’s devastating mass shooting in Maine.

“The proliferation of high-powered artillery is tearing the fabric of our nation, and as long as I am mayor, Chicago will continue to lead the call for common sense gun reform to bring safety to all communities.”

The Sunday morning shooting was the second of the weekend for Chicago. Early Saturday, four people were shot — including a woman who was critically wounded — after they left a gathering on the city’s West Side, WBBM reported.
