An Oregon man is behind bars after walking into a police station and allegedly confessing to killing his wife.
Anthony Wessel, 41, was arrested for murder after apparently telling the Oregon City Police Department that he shot his wife, Anna Wessel, a press release says.
“Mr. Wessel came to the police department shortly before 1:00pm on 11/13/2023 and said the incident occurred inside the family’s home in the 13400 block of Squire Dr in Oregon City,” the press release said. “Officers rushed to the residence and located 37-year-old Anna Wessel deceased inside.”
The press release added that no other occupants were inside the home. The couple had been married for 18 years, according to Portland ABC affiliate KATU.
Wessel has been charged with second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon. He is in custody at the Clackamas County Jail.

According to local Fox affiliate KPTV, prosecutors shared details at Wessel’s first court appearance on Tuesday.
“He told the police at that time that he shot his wife in the head two times,” the prosecutor said. “Described the gun that he used, the location within the house where it happened. The medical examiners completed a medical autopsy this morning that confirmed the cause of death was two gunshots to the head.”
The local Oregon City News website described Anna Wessel as a beloved community member and longtime manager of Geeks & Games, a gaming store. Her four children were at school when she was killed and are living with their aunt and uncle, Oregon City News reported.
