A man from Maine accused of stabbing a woman to death told police he did it because he believed she was a “witch” and that “demons” told him to attack her, prosecutors said.
Robert McClure, 71, told officers he was hearing “voices in his head” on Nov. 22 when he stabbed Christine Miller, 64, multiple times inside her apartment at the senior-living River Landing Apartment complex in Topsham, authorities said.
Police said McClure was found holding a cloth to Miller’s neck when authorities responded to a call that day at the complex around 9:30.

Local CBS affiliate WGME reported that McClure allegedly told officers as they arrived that voices in his head directed him to kill Miller because “she was a witch.” Miller was reportedly McClure’s girlfriend, though they did not live in the same unit.
The man also reportedly told police that he believed there were multiple “demons” and “witches” living inside the apartment building.
Those witches and demons told him that Miller “needed to die,” he allegedly said.
“I did stab that lady,” McClure also allegedly told police.
The 71-year-old man, who was detained at Two Bridges Regional Jail, was charged with depraved indifference murder and made his first court appearance on Monday.
