A Florida elementary school teacher earlier this week after her 23-year-old son stabbed her repeatedly when she told him she was going to help him get mental health care.
Connor Crumrine’s two older sisters fought with him over the knife when he attacked their mother, Jennifer Crumrine, Tuesday morning at their home in Port Charlotte, WTVJ reported. One of the sisters was also injured by her brother.
Jennifer Crumrine was taken to a hospital in critical condition with stab wounds to the neck and later died. Deputies found Connor on top of one of his sister’s in the bedroom, still holding the knife but not using it.
After he refused demands to drop the knife, deputies tased him and took him into custody.
The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office said the family had planned to leave on a cruise on Tuesday, but Connor began making odd statements the night before about heaven and hell and trying to teach his sisters how to curl into a fetal position. The three women locked their bedroom doors on Monday night when they went to sleep.
By Tuesday morning, Jennifer Crumrine said she was not going on the cruise and would instead help her son get help.
As the morning progressed, Connor procrastinated. One of the sisters said she was on the phone when she heard her mother begin screaming that Connor was stabbing her.
Crumrine has been charged with three counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and one count of resisting a police officer with violence.
The sheriff’s office said Friday it was working with the State’s Attorney’s Office to upgrade the charges after Jennifer Crumrine’s death.
Jennifer Crumrine was a fourth grade teacher at Sallie Jones Elementary School. The school told parents only that she had “passed away” and asked them to share the news with their children before school resumes after the holidays and said that support staff would be available for students and staff.
