PORTLAND, Ore. (TCD) — A woman will spend a maximum of 10 years in a state-run psychiatric facility after she was found guilty of pushing a 3-year-old girl onto train tracks.
The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday, Jan. 31, that 33-year-old Brianna Workman was found guilty except for insanity on charges of first-degree attempted assault, third-degree assault, interfering with public transportation, disorderly conduct, and recklessly endangering another person.
On Dec. 28, 2022, Workman was standing near a mother and her child at the Gateway Transit Center MAX platform in Northeast Portland.
Workman shoved the 3-year-old “without provocation” onto the MAX tracks. The girl reportedly fell face-first into the metal rail and rocks. Bystanders, however, “quickly rescued” her from the tracks. The district attorney’s office said the girl had a “severe headache” and red mark on her forehead after the incident.
A Multnomah County judge ordered Workman to be placed into the care of the Psychiatric Security Review Board, and she will be in custody at the Oregon State Hospital for up to 10 years.
