Key Witness Says He Lied on Stand to Avoid Life Sentence – Crime Online

A witness who testified at the trial of a man convicted to raping and killing Tennessee woman Holly Bobo has admitted to lying on the stand, according to documents filed late last month.

Bobo, 20, was found dead near her Parsons home in 2014, more than three years after she vanished. Though Zach Adams was convicted of Bobo’s kidnapping, rape, and slaying and is serving a life sentence, co-defendant Jason Autry has admitted to fabricating his testimony by accessing cell phone data revealed during the discovery process, according to WBBJ.

Adams’ appellate lawyer recently filed documents in  Hardin County Circuit Court which stated that Autry claimed he recreated the details of Bobo’s disappearance and “added Holly to it.”

WBBJ reported that no physical evidence linked Adams to Bobo’s slaying, and Adams has maintained his innocence.

In addition to Adams’ life sentence, Adams’ brother admitted to his role in Bobo’s kidnapping and is serving a 35-year sentence. Meanwhile, Autry took a plea deal which led to his release from prison in 2020.

Bobo suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head. According to the news outlet, Autry’s testimony about a gun came from an incident involving Terry Britt — a registered sex offender who had also been investigated in Bobo’s case.

Per the court documents, an incarcerated Autry fabricated the story while discussing with his lawyer the best way to avoid serving a life sentence.

It is unclear whether Adams will get a new trial. WBBJ reported Autry is awaiting sentencing in an unrelated weapons case.
