Authorities have arrested the mother of a Houston man wanted for the murder of a 12-year-old boy after she allegedly helped him elude capture, according to records.

Alva Cornejo, 51, is facing a charge of hindering apprehension and is at the Harris County Jail on a $25,000 bond. Her son, 27-year-old Terry Bryan Rivera, is accused of shooting Carlos Fernandez to death around 3 a.m. on March 4. Rivera and Carlos’ mother used to date and have two other children together. Rivera allegedly opened fire when he was breaking into Carlos’ family’s apartment.

According to a probable cause hearing on Monday, Rivera went to see his mother after the shooting and told her what happened. They were driving together when Cornejo encouraged her son to turn himself in when he jumped out of the car and ran away.
