A judge in New York has formally approved Donald Trump’s $91.63 million bond to pay the writer he sexually abused and defamed, E. Jean Carroll.
The former president now has less than a week to sort out the final details of the bond with the clerk for the Southern District of New York, according to U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan. Then, the $88.3 million he owes Carroll will be put on hold until his appeal of his court-ordered defeat is heard by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
Trump had officially secured the bond with the help of the Chubb Corporation and the Federal Insurance Company last week. He also formally filed his appeal last week, as Law&Crime reported.
Trump’s appeal was all but a certainty. He filed a motion for a new trial as a part of bundle of filings his attorneys made at the last minute in early March. His attorneys argue Trump was treated unfairly and had been “completely muzzled.”
An attorney for Carroll did not immediately return a request for comment Wednesday.
