Driver Charged With Weapons Possession in Shooting That Killed NYPD Officer – Crime Online

The driver of a car whose passenger gunned down a New York police officer on Monday has been charged with possessing a weapon.

Lindy Jones, 41, was also charged Wednesday with possessing a defaced firearm, according to the New York Daily News. The passenger in the car — and the man who shot Officer Jonathan Diller — has not been charged, although police said charges were “pending.”

Diller and his partner approached the car driven by Jones on Monday evening as it sat at a bus stop, as CrimeOnline reported. The occupants initially refused orders to step out of the car before Jones popped the locks and Diller tried to open the passenger door. Guy Rivera, the passenger, tried to hold the door back but then pulled a gun and shot the officer.

Diller’s partner, on the driver’s side of the car, fired from there, striking Rivera in the back. Dillard and Rivera, 34, were taken to Jamaica Hospital, where Diller was pronounced dead.

The Daily News said Rivera’s gun jammed after he fired the shot that killed Diller, and he dropped it. Diller managed to grab the weapon before the killer could pick it up again.

Police said a second gun was found in the vehicle.
