The wife of a Texas judge allegedly shot their nephew to death at their home outside Houston.
Mei Huang Wolfe, 48, is facing a murder charge in the April 4 death of James Edward Wolfe II. Mei Wolfe is married to Harris County Justice of the Peace Judge Bob Wolfe.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Bob Wolfe called 911 around 10 p.m. after his wife shot their nephew at their home in the 24000 block of Tesino River Circle. Paramedics pronounced James Wolfe dead on scene. Mei Wolfe was arguing with her nephew when she allegedly left the room and returned with a gun. She then proceeded to shoot him in the upper torso, deputies said.
“Her husband had attempted to stop her and to get the gun away from her but was unsuccessful,” deputies said.
James Wolfe, who was in his early 20s, had apparently been living with his aunt and uncle.
“It may have been a situation where the female homeowner felt that he wasn’t welcome anymore and a disturbance broke out over that,” Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez told reporters at the scene.
Local ABC affiliate captured video footage of crime scene investigators photographing Mei Wolfe’s hands and other parts of her body. Deputies also interviewed her and then took her to jail on a $100,000 bond, which she has since posted.
According to his campaign website, voters elected Bob Wolfe, a Republican, to the bench in 2022 after he worked as a lawyer in the Houston area for about 40 years. He married Mei after the death of his first wife, the website said.
Mei Wolfe wrote in her financial affidavit that she works part time as an interpreter. Her next court date is scheduled for May 8.
