Corey Dale Jensen, born October 16, 1975, in Mobridge SD to Richard Dale Jensen and Lynn Marie (Fiedler) Jensen, passed away suddenly at his home in Watertown SD on Feb 6th, 2025.
As an infant, Corey lived in Mobridge, Nisland, and Huron; then their family moved to Glenham in time for him to start Kindergarten. Corey attended Glenham Elementary until the 7th grade when he attended Selby High School where he graduated with the class of 1993.
After high school Corey attended Mitchell Tech for one year and then moved to Lake Area Tech in Watertown for two years. He figured he would try his hand at automotive tech, since he and Dad both had a love for cars. While he was there, he got into welding and that seemed to suit him much better.
Corey kept a close relationship with his best friends from high school and even moved with some of them when he moved to Watertown. He was always consistent in his life, while his friends would date, get married, have kids and even move jobs or locations, Corey always liked to stay in touch and would touch base whenever he could no matter if it was to have a drink or a quick bite to eat. He knew everyone had busy lives and he would make it a priority to keep in touch.
Corey was interested in how everyone was doing no matter if it was work related or personal, he genuinely cared about the people in his life.
Corey would not participate in gossip or rumors and he would often say “It’s not his tale to tell.” Another great saying from Corey was “Keep busy and make money so I don’t do stupid things and spend money!”
Corey would sacrifice so much of himself for everyone especially family and his top loved ones, that no one truly knew the extent of his heart. Corey was bigger than life to so many people. He was Big Brother, Son, Grandson, Nephew, Brother, Father Figure to some, cousin and uncle to so many including his adopted ones. Many of these titles included his community of Watertown.
It was very rare for him to go anywhere in South Dakota such as the State Fair or Deadwood and not see somebody he knew or make a new friend in the process.
There are many words people used to describe Corey – just a few of these are: honest, honorable, loyal, truthful, generous even to a fault, thoughtful, proud, prideful in a job well done, and among these were also bullheaded and stubborn, but with a huge heart and willing to do anything for anyone at any time. He volunteered in many shapes and forms, he often gave up personal plans for charity poker runs, charities of all types, and many friends cancer funds, kids with needs, bars, concerts or comedy venues.
Corey had a voice that would carry across whatever space he was in. He was also a teacher of the many hats that he wore, including welding, driving or fixing things. He shared knowledge about many subjects.
Corey loved anything shiny that had wheels or a motor, especially if it was vintage. Some of his other favorite things to do were having drinks with friends, tasting the food they cooked, and just spending time together. His utmost priority was the Johnson Family Reunion where he only missed one in many years. Even though he hated winter, he would help his best friend with snowmobile track marking, and he didn’t even own a snow cat.
He was looking forward to living a little for himself which would include acquiring a shop to rebuild some vehicles and create new things and memories. He was also looking forward to traveling and exploring a little more and enjoying more circle wagon camping.
One of Cory’s strongest and weakest points were kids. They could climb, crawl, touch, or about anything else they could think of, as long as he didn’t have to change their diapers.
He was a big soft teddy bear and if you were ever on the receiving end of one of his hugs, you knew he loved you.
Losing his dad was very hard on him, followed by losing his best friend and adopted father, Terry Heyn this last summer. Corey questioned his faith but knew because all of the signs from beyond, there was something after this life. He believed in a God being.
Corey is survived by, His Grandmother Lois Fiedler, Mother Lynn Jensen, Brother Casey (Drew, Andre, Leif, Emerald), Sister Carey Lynn, Dan and Michelle Findley, Maria Murray, Tricia Murray, Doug and Chery Bush Family, Cindy Jensen family, Larry and Donna Staiano family, Lonnie and Charlene Perman family, Chris and Jody Fiedler family, His specials Paige, Chole, Shantel, all three of his Heyn boys, and many friends and family.
Corey was preceded in death by – Grandfather Francis Jensen, Grandmother Agnes Johnson, Grandfather LeMoyne Fiedler, Father Richard Jensen, Aunt Patricia and Uncle Bob Murray, Uncle Dennis Jensen and Best Friend Terry Heyn.
Corey will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
