Obituary | Dean Wendt | Kesling Funeral Home

September 10, 1935 – May 12, 2025

Frederick Dean Wendt, age 89, of Mobridge, South Dakota, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2025, in Faulkton. Arrangements are pending with Kesling Funeral Home.

Dean was born on September 10, 1935, in rural Timber Lake, South Dakota. A man of quiet strength and deep conviction, he lived a life rooted in hard work, dedication, and love for family and the land. He proudly served his country as a veteran of the Korean War, and upon returning home, applied that same sense of duty and craftsmanship to his life’s work as a welder in Washington and a farmer-rancher in and around Mobridge and Trail City.

Dean had a lifelong passion for horses and took great pride in caring for them. Whether in the pasture or at work on the ranch, horses were a constant companion and source of joy throughout his life.

Dean is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, JoAnn Marie (Collins); his daughter, Anita (Scott) Bierle-Connerly of Little Rock, Arkansas; his son, Shawn (Nikki) Wendt of Gillette, Wyoming; and his four cherished grandchildren: Collin Bierle (Arianna), Lindsey (Dalton) Karnes, Sydney Wendt, and Ramsey Wendt. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Deloris, Virginia, Loretta, Roy, and Donald.

Dean’s legacy is one of honor, resilience, and enduring love for his family and friends. His presence will be greatly missed but warmly remembered by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to a veteran’s organization or an equine therapy program of your choice, in memory of Dean’s service and his passion for horses.
