KNOX COUNTY, Ill. (TCN) — A woman was recently convicted of poisoning a man over a span of months, killing him, and hiding his body.
The Knox County State’s Attorney’s Office announced June 26 that a judge found Marcy Oglesby guilty of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and aggravated battery by administering a dangerous substance in connection with the death of retired Maquon Police Chief Richard “Rick” Young. Oglesby’s sentencing hearing is set for Sept. 3.
According to prosecutors, Oglesby poisoned Young over the course of months, from the summer of 2021 until his death on Nov. 1, 2021. The defendant reportedly hid Young’s body in a storage unit across the street from their shared residence. Officials found Young’s remains nearly a year later, on Oct. 7, 2022, “in an advanced state of decomposition.”
Young was reportedly known in his community as “Rick the Cop.” The state’s attorney’s office noted that he was a “devoted public servant,” and his “compassion extended beyond his badge.”
Prosecutors said, “Whether it was a neighbor in need, a family member, or a stray animal, Rick was always willing to lend a hand.”
