A 10-year-old survived, but was badly injured trying to save his mother from a murder-suicide. Officers in Sheffield, Alabama, have said that they found the shooter, Adam Christopher Narmore, 40, and the victim, Ashley Lynn McClung, 38, dead in an apartment after McClung’s son managed to go across the hallway for a neighbor’s help, according to WAFF.
There is a GoFundMe to support the child as he needed surgery from the injuries to his face and arm.
“[Ashley McClung] was a wonderful mother who loved her children more than anything in the world and was also a kind, genuine and sincere friend to many,” the campaign wrote. “Due to her unexpected passing and her son’s injury, we decided to create this to assist her family with the costs of the funeral and burial so they can focus on honoring her memory, as well as with medical expenses for the brave boy who was injured while protecting his mother.”
Cops have said that McClung and Narmore had been in a relationship. Friction is clear from court records.
Narmore was reportedly arrested back in August after McClung made a domestic violence complaint with the Colbert County Sheriff’s Office.
He drunkenly struck McClung several times, dragged her by the hair and threatened to shoot her if she had anyone sent to the home, authorities said.
Narmore, who had faced trial in December, pleaded not guilty.
A manager at the apartment complex where the shooting happened last Sunday, Oct. 29, Park Place Apartments, said that McClung had been at the apartment for two weeks. Narmore was not on the lease.
Officers reportedly said McClung and Narmore had been arguing when Narmore fatally shot her with a .410 shotgun.
McClung’s son, age 10, tried to protect her. Narmore shot him in the face and arm, but the boy managed to walk across the hall for help. Narmore died by suicide. The boy attends New Bethel Elementary School.
“I cannot give any updates on his condition or the situation,” Principal Nathan Fuller reportedly said Monday. “However, I can say that he is a courageous and brave young man and an outstanding kid.”
