EL PASO, Texas (TCN) — Police recently arrested a couple accused of locking their adopted son in a room and confining him for years.
According to the El Paso Police Department, on June 11, officers responded to a home on Tierra Mar Way in reference to allegations that a 15-year-old male “was being neglected and confined by his adoptive parents.”
Responding officers made contact with the victim and his adoptive parents, 51-year-old Richard Ramirez and 52-year-old Nora Ramirez.
Nora Ramirez and Richard Ramirez allegedly locked the teen in his bedroom for extended periods of time and forced him to use the bathroom within his room. The victim reportedly told police his adoptive parents only let him out for dinner, and then he would immediately have to go back to his room. Nora Ramirez and Richard Ramirez allegedly subjected their son to this “pattern of treatment” since he was around 5 years old.
According to KFOX-TV, Richard Ramirez worked with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office but recently submitted his separation paperwork.
Richard Ramirez and Nora Ramirez were taken into custody and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility. They each face a charge of unlawful restraint.
