DOTHAN, Ala. (TCD) — A 54-year-old man stands accused of killing his ex-girlfriend’s 17-year-old daughter during a fight over the weekend.
On Saturday, Dec. 9, shortly before 1 p.m., the Dothan Police Department responded to a home on Sedona Lane to a report of “suspicious circumstances.” Once inside, police found a female victim, identified by WDHN-TV as Duong Thi Thuy Troung, who was unresponsive “from what appeared to be the result of a physical altercation.”
First responders performed medical aid before transporting the victim to a local hospital, where she died from her injuries. Police said the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences will determine Troung’s cause and manner of death.
Police charged Minh Nguyen on suspicion of her murder. According to WDHN, the victim was the daughter of Nguyen’s ex-girlfriend.
Nguyen reportedly worked with his ex-girlfriend at a nail salon in the neighborhood, but officials said his motive is unclear at the moment. Dothan Police Lt. Ronald Hall told WDHN there had been “conflicts” between Troung and Nguyen in the past, but nothing has ever been “physical in nature.”
Hall said investigators are working to determine what “led up to the physical aspect of this on that particular day.”
Nguyen remains held in the Houston County Jail without bond.
