An Alabama man was arrested Thursday night after he wrecked his vehicle into a pole in a Bass Pro Shop parking lot, stripped naked, ran into the store and did a cannonball into a large fish tank inside the store.
George Owens, 42, was charged with public lewdness, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, assault on a police officer, and two counts each of first-degree criminal mischief and reckless endangerment, AL.com reported.
Video taken by bystanders showed Owens do his cannonball into the water and later stand beneath a waterfall.
When police officers arrived, he climbed out of the water, yelled to the officers and dove back in. Video shows him continuing to shout at the offcers before again climbing out of the water feature and dropping to the concrete floor, where he remained motionless until officers handcuffed him.
At that point, he began struggling.
Leeds Police Chief Paul Irwin said Owens was in the water for about five minutes before police arrived. The incident happened just before the store’s closing time. He said that Irwin “intentionally” hit the pole outside the store, according to WIAT.
“It’s very unfortunate that people like this aren’t receiving the treatment they need,” Irwin said.
Owens was taken to a hospital for a mental evaluation and then booked into the St. Clair County Jail.
