South Carolina officials have released a new photo of Alex Murdaugh following his conviction for the murders of his wife and son, Maggie and Paul.
Fox News reported that the Department of Corrections issued the new mugshot of Murdaugh, which was taken on Tuesday because the previous one was blurry. He was transported to Kirkland Reception and Evaluation Center on Friday, the same day he received two consecutive life sentences for the 2021 slayings at his family’s property in Colleton County.
According to Fox News, Murdaugh will remain in a cell by himself at the maximum-security facility for 45 days as he is evaluated. During that time, corrections officials will gather various details in deciding which maximum security prison he will serve out his sentence, as CrimeOnline previously reported.
A jury took than less than three hours to convict Alex of Maggie and Paul’s murders. Murdaugh maintained his innocence at sentencing, as he had since the slayings.
“I’m innocent. I would never hurt my wife Maggie. I would never hurt my son Paw-Paw,” he told the court.
However, Judge Clifton Newman called Murdaugh’s claims “not credible” before handing down two consecutive life sentences.
