Amanda Frances Speaks Out on Her Former “Cult” (EXCLUSIVE)

Amanda Frances shared new details about revelations involving her former “cult” that came to light on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

Dorit Kemsley had piqued the cast’s interest during Season 15, Episode 8, when she brought up that Amanda “ran away from a cult” amid their heated conflict at her joint birthday dinner. At the time, Amanda promised to answer their questions later on, but, in the meantime, she opened up some more on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills After Show.

For starters, Amanda poked fun at the fact Dorit had used her past to push back on her assertion that her abrupt exit from Rachel Zoe’s backyard bash (which coincided with the anniversary of her newborn son Zion’s death) was the first time she ever left a dinner party in tears.

“There weren’t many dinner parties in the cult, I have to tell you,” she joked with Kyle Richards. “I should have joined one like that. Maybe next time.”

Amanda also clarified she had written the blog post that Dorit referenced on RHOBH roughly 14 years ago. She further pointed out that, since then, she has penned several other articles and discussed the topic in various interviews. Amanda also said she mentioned her cult experience in Rich as F–k but noted that she was saving the specifics for her next book.

“I’m writing that book now,” she continued on the RHOBH After Show. “So, there were never any secrets. But it’s just been so long ago.”

Amanda went on to highlight the hallmarks of a cult that related to her own situation.

“What makes a cult a cult is the isolation, the control, the manipulation, the subtle brainwashing,” she explained. “A cult is typically marked by control, manipulation, an authority figure leader that cannot be questioned, the fear of leaving. I can say a lot of things about what it was and what it wasn’t, and why it meets the criteria of a cult. But, yes, it was not known for the dinner parties.”

What Amanda Frances said about her experience with a cult on RHOBH

When Dorit broached the subject of Amanda’s past during RHOBH‘s Feb. 5 episode, the Season 15 newcomer didn’t bat an eye.

“I did leave a cult,” Amanda told her. “What does the cult have to do with anything?”

In a confessional, she added, “This woman disrespected me and my son on the anniversary of his death, and now she wants to bring up that I’m in a cult? She’s just scraping the bottom of the barrel for anything she thinks will make me look bad.”

As Jennifer Tilly, meanwhile, began asking questions on the specifics of her experience, Amanda replied, “That’s a whole different story. We can absolutely get to that anytime. I’m an open book, anytime.”

She briefly addressed the topic again later when Kyle told her during a hike, “At some point, I am going to have to hear more about this cult.”

Amanda’s response? “Anytime. I’m actually a wealth of information about cults.”

Why Dorit Kemsley brought up that Amanda Frances was in a cult

After her hike with Amanda, Kyle remarked in a confessional, “Looking at Amanda, she doesn’t exactly scream cult member. But by doing this deep dive on Amanda, Dorit was trying to get information to embarrass her. What is she gaining from this?”

Dorit, meanwhile, gave a different version of her motives to Rachel and Sutton Stracke.

“She claims to be very open and transparent,” she said of Amanda. “There’s something amiss, and I would like to know and understand Amanda. It’s not what you see is what you get.”
