The ups and downs in Golnesa Gharachedaghi’s rollercoaster relationship with ex-husband Dennis DeSantis were in full swing during The Valley: Persian Style‘s cast trip to Palm Springs.

Though it may have appeared at one point that Golnesa could get back together with Dennis, by the end of Season 1, Episode 5, enough drama had bubbled up for the Shahs of Sunset alum to declare that even a friendship with him was off the table, while she focused solely on their business partnership, instead.

Even though Golnesa invited Dennis on the getaway — unbeknownst to her friends and castmates — after recently reuniting with him for the first time since they ended their 10-day marriage, the past issues that reemerged (more on that below) appeared to still be too fresh. So, Golnesa decided to “take a step back” once again, as she explained to bestie Adam Farahan.

“I think it can seem very confusing, because Dennis was one of my best friends for 13 years, and then we got married, and all that drama happened,” she elaborated in a confessional. “But I need to really make it clear to myself and all my friends that we are just in business together. And I’m not ready to take on that “friendship” role yet.”

Golnesa, meanwhile, added that her purpose for inviting Dennis to Palm Springs was to “rip off that awkward bandage” with her friends, namely Mercedeh Javid and Reza Farahan, who were still upset about how he behaved in the aftermath of their split. She ultimately regretted that decision, however.

“We still need to have space, and I feel like I made a wrong choice by asking him to come to Palm Springs,” Golnesa told a producer, later adding, “I’m happy I ripped the Band-Aid off when it came to the whole group. But the one thing I did learn from this whole situation was that Dennis isn’t gonna take accountability anytime soon. And I need to accept that maybe our relationship is never gonna be the way it used to be.”

Inside Golnesa and Dennis’ argument in Palm Springs

Though The Valley: Persian Style‘s Jan. 29 episode kicked off with Golnesa and Dennis still at odds on the heels of Mercedeh and Reza confronting him during Adam’s birthday dinner, they quickly made peace. In fact, Dennis ended up staying overnight with her and the rest of the cast, and the next morning, Mercedeh even made him eggs for breakfast.

Golnesa, meanwhile, was still taken aback by Dennis’ defiant re-entry into the group, however. Whereas she thought he would show up with “roses and apologies,” he, instead, denied any wrongdoing and claimed she’d treated him “like s–t,” over the years. That was something she was not going to let go so easily, despite her friends being more welcoming to him.

“I’m worried he thinks that everything was just swept under the rug and everything’s hunky-dory right now, ’cause it’s not,” Golnesa told a producer. “We still need to talk about it and rekindle this friendship slowly.”

When they did sit down to talk, however, the conversation quickly went sideways after Golnesa accused Dennis of being “on a hamster wheel of constantly bringing up” her past.

As the two bickered, Golnesa claimed that she was “smarter” than Dennis, prompting him to clap back, “That’s why I’m the successful one, and you have no career. You have no money, no job. How are you going to give me advice?”

Why Dennis DeSantis left the Palm Springs trip

As Golnesa stormed off, she shouted for Dennis to pack his bags and go.

As he was loading his luggage into a vehicle and about to head home, Mercedeh intervened and convinced him to stay. Dennis warned her, however, that if he and Golnesa continued to have beef, not only would he leave, but he might not “be able to do business with her” anymore.

Golnesa, for her part, was confused by her friends’ mixed messages — and why Dennis was still in Palm Springs, for that matter. Realizing that Golnesa was avoiding Dennis and would not be able to enjoy the remainder of the weekend with him still there, Adam and Bamshad Akhbari went and asked him to leave the house.

Dennis, meanwhile, took their “bad news” in stride, telling the duo, “I understand. It’s all good. Easy-peasy.”

As the drama continues, find out what caused Golnesa and Dennis to end their marriage.
