Arizona man arrested after 4-month-old suffers skull fractures, brain bleed, and broken ribs- A 27-year-old man from Buckeye, Arizona, named David Roman was arrested following a tragic incident where a 4-month-old girl suffered severe injuries, including skull fractures, brain bleeding, and broken ribs, while in his care.
The incident occurred on March 13, 2024, and the child was transported to a hospital with the mentioned injuries. Roman, who was identified as the victim’s father, was arrested at his home on March 27, 2024, and charged with three counts of child abuse and three counts of endangerment.
According to the Buckeye Police Department, the child’s mother reported that Roman cared for the girl on the day of the incident. Roman allegedly told the mother that he stepped on a toy, dropped the baby, and then fell on her by accident. However, when the mother and Roman brought the infant to the hospital, they were informed that the injuries were not accidental. The baby had reportedly fallen three different times while under Roman’s care, and the injuries were deemed “not accidental” after further testing and medical examinations.
Roman’s attorney argued that the rib injuries might be a separate medical issue that affects many babies at childbirth and questioned the likelihood of all these accidents occurring. The attorney emphasized the importance of considering the timeline and involvement in the case, suggesting that the injuries might have been caused by an accident rather than intentional harm.
The arrest and charges against Roman highlight the severity of the injuries inflicted on the child and the ongoing investigation into the incident. The case underscores the importance of vigilance and the potential for child abuse to occur, even in seemingly innocuous situations like caring for a child while the parents are away.
