Ashley Darby has experienced many life changes over the past several years. But one thing that hasn’t changed is her dedication to her kids.
More than three years after splitting from her ex-husband, Michael Darby, The Real Housewives of Potomac mom shed more light on their current dynamic and how they’ve adapted to coparenting life. Ashley admitted to The Daily Dish that she and Michael initially struggled to navigate their new normal but have become much better communicators since their divorce was finalized back in February.

“It’s going so much better than it was before,” she said. “We definitely had some growing pains, I think with the new change of being separated and now divorced, but we’re communicating so much better.”

Ashley said her and Michael’s young sons have also noticed the positive shift.
“Now they’re at this age where they’re like, ‘Oh mommy and daddy hug,’” she added. “And they sort of force us to hug, which we’ll do because we want to show them that we still care about each other and that they were really conceived and raised with love. So, we’ll give a hug every now and again when we need to, and that’s a big advancement from where we used to be.”
Ashley Darby shares the latest on her 6-year-old boy, Dean
Ashley and Michael married in 2014 and welcomed their first son, Dean Darby, about five years later. She gave birth to their second child, Dylan Darby, in 2021.
“Dean is in first grade. So he’s actually in big school,” Ashley said, noting he was previously in a Montessori school. “So he sort of was the big fish in the small pond. And now he’s in a bigger pond. And he’s flourishing so beautifully.”
The Potomac mom said Dean has also become quite the “Lego master,” as he enjoys assembling some of the most complicated sets.
“He does every Lego. There’s no Lego that’s too hard for him,” she revealed. “He does the 18-year-old ones; he does the 3,000-piece Legos. I mean, he’s 6 years old and he just sits in a corner and does these incredible Lego creations.”

Ashley said Dean has also developed a passion for the construction toy, so much so that her living room is now a “museum of all their Lego creations.”
“He’s following in his brother’s footsteps with everything creative,” she said, referring to her 4-year-old boy. “And Dean, he’s like a little human calculator, so he’s always doing math and engineering. It’s definitely in his DNA from his dad.”
