An Atlanta father is charged with murder in the shooting death of his son outside an apartment complex in the city’s tony Buckhead neighborhood early Thursday morning.
Atlanta Police said a woman at the complex called 911 about a domestic dispute with her boyfriend shortly after midnight, WAGA reported. They arrived and interviewed the pair, but at some point during the encounter, the man’s father arrived, and the two of them went downstairs and into the parking lot.
Shortly afterward, the officers heard gunshots and went to investigate.
Once there, they found that 54-year-old Durante Tolliver had shot his 32-year-old son, who died at the scene.
Police said they believe the father and son got into an argument before Tolliver fired at least five shots at his son, WUPA reported.
Investigators told WSB that the girlfriend had called Tolliver to help her with the dispute with his son, who was identified as Durante Schofield.
Tolliver has been charged with murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
