Austen Kroll wasn’t quite buying Shep Rose’s financial concerns during a joint shopping trip on Southern Charm.

The two were on the hunt for Madison LeCroy’s baby shower gift at a Charleston boutique during the Season 11 premiere when Shep appeared taken aback by the price tags. After selecting a rocking horse, Shep’s jaw dropped when he saw that the toy cost “150 bucks.”

“Oh, shut up, Shep,” Austen playfully responded. “As if you care. It’s fine. You’re fine.”

He couldn’t help but further call out Shep in a confessional, though.

“It shocks me how f–king cheap that Shep is,” Austen added, before referencing Shep’s family money. “Mr. Trust Fund. Mr. Boykin himself.”

Though Shep showed much more excitement over a $45 picture frame, Austen spotted an oversized teddy bear that he just couldn’t resist. After all, the store employee pointed out that Madison planned to name her baby girl Teddi. (She and husband, Brett Randle, indeed, followed through with naming their daughter after her late father, Ted “Teddy” LeCroy, after she gave birth in June 2025.)

“See, I think that’s super cute because it’s symbolic,” Austen opined.

Shep, for his part, agreed that he’d chosen the “perfect” gift, but could only let out an uncomfortable laugh when he spotted the giant bear’s $350 price tag.

How Madison LeCroy reacted to Shep Rose and Austen Kroll’s baby gifts

Later, on Southern Charm‘s Nov. 19 episode, Shep and Austen pulled up to Madison’s baby shower with the bear situated between them and taking up most of their ride share’s back seat. “I mean, this bear is obtrusive,” Shep joked as they exited the vehicle and tried to figure out how best to carry the oversized stuffed animal into the party.

After they joined the party, the gift, which Austen apparently purchased, received a bit of a mixed reaction. Though Craig Conover immediately remarked, “I love the teddy bear,” Salley Carson cracked a joke about how she “looked stupid” when she tried to pick up the overstuffed plush toy.

“It feels expensive,” Madison noted. After Austen confirmed, “Well, it was, actually,” she playfully replied, “Good.”

Shep, meanwhile, appeared to choose a more budget-friendly gift for Madison. He presented her with a box containing a children’s book called, There Are Moms Way Worse Than You, though it’s unclear what else, if anything, was inside.

“I thought it was hilarious,” Shep said, and Madison seemed to get a kick out of the book, which she described as “cute.”

Though Rodrigo Reyes had also stuck with the same theme as Austen, his “very personal” present — framed teddy bear artwork that he painted himself — sparked a much more emotional reaction from Madison.

“I don’t cry very often, but Rodrigo obviously knew that I was naming the baby Teddi, after my late father,” she explained in a confessional. “Not having my dad, it makes me very emotional. I know my dad loved Brett so much and I know that he wanted us to have a family. And so, it only made sense for me to name her after him.”

Details on Shep Rose’s family

As Austen noted during their shopping trip, Shep is, indeed, related to the Boykin family through his paternal grandmother. The Boykins have deep ties to the Palmetto State, with both a town and a dog breed, the Boykin spaniel (which happens to be South Carolina’s state dog), named after them.

As Shep has previously revealed, his family includes lawyers, judges, entrepreneurs, a pro golfer, and even a great aunt who inspired a character in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s literary classic The Great Gatsby. His family’s real estate portfolio also includes a water-front property in Hilton Head Island, S.C., as well as a mountain home in the Appalachians of North Carolina.

Despite Shep’s own past work in real estate, investments in bars, and other entrepreneurial endeavors, the Southern Charm-er has previously downplayed his own success in a self-deprecating manner.

As Shep joked in a 2019 interview with The Daily DishThey’re all very accomplished. And then there’s me.”
