Austen Kroll Confronts Whitner Slagsvol Live on the After Show

When Austen Kroll caught castmate Whitner Slagsvol in a lie on the Southern Charm After Show, he wasted no time in calling him out — literally.

While Austen and Rodrigo Reyes were in the midst of unpacking their visit to Whitner’s family estate, Itchy Grass Farm, that concluded on Southern Charm Season 11, Episode 11, the duo discovered the falsehood. Apparently, Whitner had sent them both the same text, claiming that they were each his mom Beth’s favorite.

To clear up any confusion, Austen pulled out his phone and called Whitner directly.

“Hey, quick question. We are having a bit of a debate here,” Austen began his call to Whit. “How many people did you text and say that we were your mother’s favorite? ‘Cause apparently, it seems a few of us think that you said this to us.”

Whitner, meanwhile, tapped into his experience as a Charleston attorney to “plead the fifth” and avoid self-incrimination. Austen did not let him off the hook quite so easily, however, and playfully demanded the real answer.

“Can I ask her?” Whitner questioned, before revealing, “It’s gonna be Rod, if I had to guess. … Rod was probably her mostest of favorites.”

After he hung up, Austen joked, “Well, now I’m pissed.”

In a separate After Show interview, Whitner admitted, “I lied to him. He was not my mom’s favorite,” before adding, “I told everyone that they were my mom’s favorite.” He also doubled down on naming Rodrigo as the matriarch’s most probable pick.

The Southern Charm cast shared their thoughts on Whitner Slagsvol’s parents

Though Austen joked about amending his answer after finding out he was actually not Whitner’s mom’s favorite Charmer, he’d already praised her and her husband, Whitner Sr., aka “Big Whit,” who had hosted the entire cast on their sprawling estate in Hopkins, S.C.

“I mean, I really liked his mom. His dad was funny,” Austen remarked on the After Show. “I think that I got along with his parents pretty famously.”

Rodrigo, meanwhile, agreed that he also “really liked” the Slagsvols, as did Venita Aspen and Charley Manley.

“His parents are fun, dude,” Venita added, separately. “His parents are, like, balls to the wall, we’re having a good time, you know? At this point, I’m so hellbent on being in the kitchen with my soon-to-be mother-in-law.”

Molly O’Connell had also similarly gushed about Mrs. Slagsvol during Southern Charm‘s Feb. 11 episode.

“Oh, I think Whit’s mom’s amazing,” Molly remarked to a producer. “I’m gonna marry Whit, just so I can hang out with his mom.”

Details on Whitner Slagsvol’s parents and family

Previously, during Southern Charm Episode 10, Whitner shared new details about his upbringing and family history in South Carolina, which he said dated back to the Revolutionary War.

“My family unquestionably has deep roots in the south, but just because we’ve been here a long time doesn’t mean that … we’re very traditional,” he noted in a confessional, adding that his parents had “no rules” on the farm, allowing him to grow up in a “free, real empowering way.”

Whitner also shared a “fun fact” that the late musician Jimmy Buffet was his uncle.

“My Aunt Jane married him,” he added, describing them as “one of the longest-running couples” in the history of rock and roll. “The Buffett proximity had a big influence just on the opportunities that we’ve had. And all of a sudden, the world was just this bigger place of people who aren’t from the same country club, doctor, lawyer, ya know, whatever.”

Whitner also mentioned having sisters, including Sarah, whom Craig Conover brought as his date to an event in 2017.
