Captain Sandy Yawn and the rest of the crew on Below Deck Mediterranean are off to a rough start based on the above preview of the Season 10 premiere (airing Monday, Sept. 29).

In the sneak peek, it’s revealed that Sandy receives a troubling text from new crew member Tessa Budd less than 24 hours before M/Y Bravado is set to cast off from Barcelona for the season’s first charter. According to the Australian deckhand, “I got horrible food poisoning. Several people in my hotel did. I can’t make it to the boat. Be there tomorrow. Could not be more sorry.”

“What are we gonna go?” Sandy says. “F–k.”

She then questions the holdup with another crew member, returning Below Deck-er Nathan Gallagher, who’s about to enter his new role as bosun.

To get an idea of his ETA, Sandy messages the former deckhand and tells producers that in spite of his tardiness, she’s “excited” about Nathan’s promotion. In her words, “He’s had a lot of experience on other vessels, handling lines, he’s very comfortable on deck, and he’s trustworthy.”

What to know about the Below Deck Med Season 10 crew

Despite Tessa and Nathan’s late arrivals, the Season 10 trailer proves they will eventually join the others before they set sail, as will returning chief stew Aesha Scott and, of course, Captain Sandy. Max Salvador also returns from France, having skipped Season 9 following his Season 8 struggles.

In the above preview, Max tells Sandy he had a renewed sense of motivation and clarity after spending a year in Bali and studying hypnosis. As he puts it, “Like a snap, everything changed.”

Newcomers this season include English chef (and sometimes clown performer) Josh Bingham, English stew Kizzi Kitchener, Floridian first-time superyacht stew Victoria SanJuan, and Colombian deckhand Christian Trimino.

Captain Sandy makes a prediction about Season 10’s charters

Elsewhere in the sneak peek, Sandy says in a confessional that returning to Barcelona for the first time since 2009 is something of a homecoming: “I lived here for four years. As a captain, I feel like I grew up here. It’s the largest metropolis in the Med, from the history to the art to the culture to the food.”

It has all the makings of what Captain Sandy believes will be “an epic season.”
