Brittany Cartwright Reveals Jax Taylor’s Text After Divorce Filing

After The Valley‘s Brittany Cartwright filed for divorce from Jax Taylor, both parties were taken by surprise — but for very different reasons.

As seen in Season 2, Episode 10, Jax didn’t expect to see a process server to show up at his new condo and hand-deliver divorce papers, just days after he completed his 30 days in rehab. But what caught Brittany off guard was what her estranged husband texted her after discovering that she had initiated the process to legally end their marriage.

“I think he texted me something like, ‘Wow. Divorce, huh? I guess I saw it coming.’ Something like that,” Brittany revealed in the above clip from The Valley After Show. “Like, it wasn’t mean, it wasn’t aggressive, like I was thinking it was gonna be.”

When Vanderpump RulesLala Kent asked Brittany if she responded to Jax’s text message, though, she couldn’t quite remember. “I probably didn’t say anything,” she admitted. “Like, I don’t know. What would I say? … ‘Cause I’m not sorry, you know?”

Jax Taylor reacts to Brittany Cartwright’s divorce timing

From Jax’s point of view, he was aware “the divorce was coming,” but was still taken aback at how Brittany handled the situation, nonetheless.

“I mean, I would’ve filed if she didn’t, but I was just shocked how it came about,” he claimed separately on the After Show, adding that he was “blindsided” by the cast’s “Britt’s Bar party,” immediately followed by “divorce papers coming at [him].”

“It’s already hard enough going through something like this,” he elaborated. “But then, just to put it on national television as well, that’s when I was like, ‘Wow, she’s playing dirty.'”

Jax Taylor opens up about his divorce paper mistake

Elsewhere on The Valley After Show, Jax further claimed that he’d “propositioned” Brittany to “just mediate” their legal separation. “And she said, ‘F–k no, I’m gonna get divorced.'” he alleged.

Initially, Jax didn’t even plan to hire a divorce attorney. “Brittany always told me, ‘No matter what happens in life, I’ll never take your son away from you.’ … I’m like, OK, well, then I guess I don’t need to get a lawyer,” he shared. “Why am I gonna spend thousands and thousands of dollars? I don’t want your house, I don’t want your furniture or dishes, I don’t want anything. You’re not gonna take my son away from me. What the f–k do I need a lawyer for?”

So, he filled out and submitted his response to Brittany’s divorce filing by himself. “Well, I did it all wrong,” Jax said. “And then she yelled at me for it and made fun of me about it.”

According to Brittany, Jax, indeed, “filled out the papers all wrong.” As she further explained, “He checked that we were never legally married, and he checked that our separation date was the day that he went in to file the papers. So, he was already in, like, contempt of court or whatever it was because he did the paperwork wrong. So, he had to hire somebody to come in and fix it.”

Regardless, Jax admitted that they both “wanted to get divorced” in the end. “How this played out was very… I don’t really have any words. It’s a sucky situation,” he continued on the After Show. “But it needed to happen. … It was time.”
