Bronwyn Newport reflects on becoming a U.S. citizen
Days before entering her 40s, Bronwyn took to Instagram to share another exciting 2025 milestone: becoming a United States citizen.
“I was born in Brazil to parents with UK citizenship so I moved to this country as a little girl with dual citizenship already,” she wrote in a September 9 Instagram. “Our family moved to Europe and back when I was in elementary school and honestly, as a child I never thought about it. As a young adult I truly didn’t either. As I got more interested (and horrified) by politics in the last few years I realized I needed to become a US citizen.”

Bronwyn said she gave back to her community through donations and volunteering, but wanted to participate in electoral politics. So, she began the naturalization process, which involved multiple applications, interviews, and extensive studying.
“[It] was so eye opening if you haven’t been through it, ” she said about the journey to citizenship. “I am both so grateful for my own acknowledged privilege and more aware of how difficult it can be for others. Since my swearing in ceremony and becoming a citizen I feel so thrilled but also the significance and the weight of responsibility!”
