BROOKLYN, N.Y. (TCN) —Â A man has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in connection with the death of a man whose body was found in a refrigerator inside his apartment.
On Nov. 19, the District Attorney of Kings County announced Nicholas McGee, 48, was sentenced to life in prison without parole; he had been convicted of first-degree murder and concealment of a human corpse on Oct. 9.Â
According to the investigation, McGee stabbed Kawsheen Gelzner, 39, more than 60 times and hit him on the head with a hammer. McGee and his partner, Heather Stines, 48, then used drugs that Gelzner had had in his pockets. McGee then dismembered the body in a bathtub and placed the parts in bags. He put the bags in the freezer and sealed it shut with tape and glue, the announcement said. Â
Gelzner’s remains were discovered in January 2024 after an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers. McGee was in reportedly custody on an unrelated fraud charge in Virginia, WABC reported at the time. He confessed in detail to both the murder and dismemberment, the DA’s office said, after negotiating for a cigarette. WABC reported that McGee was then extradited from Virginia and charged with murder, robbery, concealment of a human corpse, and tampering with physical evidence.Â
Gelzner had allegedly been staying with McGee and Stines and had been paying them with drugs in return. Allegedly the attack occurred when he was unable to pay them, WABC reported.
The DA’s office said Stines will be sentenced at a later date; she pleaded guilty Oct. 24 to charges of concealment of a human corpse and third-degree bail jumping.Â
