A Louisiana woman was arrested after police said she and her brother assaulted her ex-boyfriend while telling him that “he should die.”
According to court documents obtained by local news outlet The Advocate, Ruby Ealy, 48, was taken into custody following an incident on May 29 when police responded to calls of a shooting in an East Baton Rouge, Louisiana, neighborhood. Upon arrival, police said that the alleged victim, who was not named but was identified as Ruby Ealy’s ex-boyfriend, had a gunshot wound to the arm.
The ex-boyfriend allegedly told officers that before he was shot, Ruby Ealy beat him with a baseball bat.
According to The Advocate’s reporting on the documents, the ex-boyfriend told police that he and Ruby Ealy — who had dated for three years but had been broken up for one year — had an argument earlier that night. When interviewed by police, Ruby Ealy said the same thing. However, the former couple’s story from that point forward went in different directions.
The ex-boyfriend said that Ruby Ealy’s brother, Darius Ealy, was also at the home at the time of the argument, and he was the one who allegedly shot him. Before the alleged gunfire, the ex-boyfriend allegedly said the siblings both beat him up with a baseball bat while saying “he should die.” They also allegedly beat the man with their fists. Local ABC affiliate WBRZ also obtained the documents and reported that Ruby Ealy told police that she heard the gunshots from inside the house.
Ruby Ealy initially said that it was only her and her ex-boyfriend at the home. She also reportedly accused her ex-boyfriend of getting physical with her, which prompted her to act in self-defense. According to court documents, Ruby Ealy eventually identified Darius Ealy as the one who allegedly shot her ex-boyfriend.
The police stated that the ex-boyfriend was allegedly shot multiple times by Darius Ealy after he left the home. Darius Ealy was not at the scene when police arrived and is considered to be at large.
Ruby Ealy was arrested on charges of principal to attempted second-degree murder and domestic battery.
