Two Texas burglars allegedly busted into a locked home and stole thousands of dollars worth of personal items — all while the woman who lived there was at her mother’s funeral.
Adrianne Hart, 31, and Sage Grider, 29, were identified in home security video that showed them raiding the house where Caryn Papantonakis lived with her children, according to Houston ABC affiliate KTRK.
On Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2023, as Papantonakis and her son and daughter left the funeral of Papantonakis’ mother, her son apparently noticed that their home security camera showed someone breaking into their home.
Footage showed that Hart and Grider stayed inside the house for more than 30 minutes, KTRK said. They allegedly took jewelry, silver, the kids’ backpacks, car keys, their holiday stockings, and other items — in total, more than $50,000 worth of goods.
Papantonakis told the station that the burglars ransacked her home.
“It is such a violation,” Papantonakis said. She told the station that she hasn’t been able to properly grieve her mother’s death because she has getting new keys and locks for her home and car and trying to identify what else is missing.
Hart and Griner apparently nicked a pair of AirPods belonging to one of the children, which Houston police were able to track to the woman’s apartment, KTRK reported. While some of the stolen goods were there, other items were eventually found at a pawnshop.
According to court records, Hart is accused of stealing a pendant, jewelry, and keys. Grider is accused of breaking into the home with intent to commit theft.
Hart and Grider are charged with felony burglary of habitation — and as court records show, this isn’t the first time the pair has tried to pull off a home robbery linked to a funeral.
In 2020, they were arrested by police in Memorial Villages and charged with burglary for allegedly stealing a recently deceased person’s car during their funeral. Police reportedly found the trunk filled with stolen goods, KTRK said. Investigators also found a list of names of people who recently died and their family members.
