Buster held up pretty well until the “cameras were off him, but then he collapsed,” according to a report by NY Post. “He was crying uncontrollably. The uncles, Alex’s brothers, John Marvin Murdaugh and Randy Murdaugh, finally got him into a car”, the report stated. Despite the overwhelming situation on Thursday night, Buster came back all composed at the Colleton County Courthouse for sentencing Friday morning and stood beside Murdaugh as he was sentenced to two consecutive life terms for the killings.

The jury deliberated for less than three hours on Thursday, March 2, 2023, before finding Murdaugh guilty as a result of investigations stemming from the June 7, 2021, shooting deaths of Murdaugh’s wife, Maggie, and his youngest son, Paul.

Buster was reportedly not at the Colleton County family home at the time of the brutal murders of his mother and brother. But during the aftermath of the incident, Buster stood by his father and supported him throughout the trial. He had sat diligently behind his father every day of the trial, all composed and emotionless as the court discussed how his mother and brother were brutally shot and killed by his father.

One time, Buster was reportedly moved to the back of the Colleton County Courthouse after he appeared to flip the bird at a witness in his father’s trial. The 26-year-old was spotted biting on his middle finger while Mark Tinsley, the attorney for victim Mallory Beach’s family, was nearby. He then apparently kicked over a water bottle in anger when courtroom security asked him to move out of the front row behind his father. Toward the end of the trial, Buster even took the stand to testify on his father’s behalf.
