Candiace Dillard Bassett’s Son Jett Turns 1: Birthday Message

It’s already been a year since The Real Housewives of Potomac alum Candiace Dillard Bassett welcomed her son, and not even she can believe how wonderful it is to be a boy mom.

How to Watch

The Real Housewives of Potomac airs Sundays at 8/7c and streams next day on Peacock.

Candiace’s baby, Jett Maxwell Lee Bassett, turned 1 on Oct. 3, and Candiace shared a handful of precious moments on Instagram to mark the occasion, from photos from when she was pregnant with her and husband Chris Bassett’s child to delivering Jett in the hospital. She described her baby boy as the reason for her existence in a lengthy, heartfelt post in which she struggled to “articulate” just how much she loved him.

Said Candiace, “Bringing you into this world brought on a kind of love that takes my breath away. It is indescribable. Intangible. It almost sends me into a kind of paralysis because I simply don’t think there is [a] human expression to do justice to such a love.”

The grateful mom shared a snap and a video of Jett living his best life at the beach, revealing only the back of his head. Candiace continued to wax poetic about her son, whom she called the “personification of answered prayers.”

She continued, “You shattered everything I thought I knew about most things while simultaneously reminding me that I always knew how to be a mama. Your mama.”

Candiace Dillard Bassett on balancing work and being a mom

The singer and former White House staffer — who released a new podcast, Undomesticated, only two days before Jett’s big day — has her work-baby balance routine down pat. In case you need proof, Candiace recently shared a video on Instagram Stories, which showed the babe on his mother’s lap as she sat in her workspace.

She compared the size of her 1-year-old’s feet to the “teeny tiny feet” she had ink-stamped shortly after his birth. She also taught him how to say “birthday” ahead of his one-year milestone.

But that’s not all. On Sept. 20, the “Drive Back” singer brought Jett along when she headed to her alma mater, Howard University, to perform “The Star-Spangled Banner” at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. It demonstrated her seamless ability to juggle work and motherhood, something Candiace touched on when she was cast as Miss Lilly in a musical production of Dennis Williams’ I’ve Cried the Blues, slated for later this month.

“To step into this kind of role now, as a new mom, feels like proof to myself that I can do both,” Candiace said in a Sept. 26 interview with BOSSIP. “Be fully present as Jett’s mother and still accomplish the artistic goals I’ve set for myself.”

Candiace Dillard Bassett shares an update on husband, Chris Bassett

Candiace feared that much of the parents’ responsibility would fall at her feet, given that her husband of seven years was already 50 years old, she explained to Bravo’s The Daily Dish earlier this year. Thankfully, Chris’ experience as a dad gave Candiace room to relax.

“He has three children, and I’ve seen him be an amazing father to his kids. But, you know, a newborn is like a whole other ball of wax. It can be tiring, it can be exhausting, it can be unpredictable. So I was like, how is this about to be?” she said.

Once Jett entered the world, the dad sprang into action, jumping in to prepare bottles, buy him toys, and so on. “He’s like an army soldier,” the RHOP alum realized. “He knew exactly what to do.”

Find out how Candiace and Chris celebrated their seven-year wedding anniversary.
