Captain Sandy Yawn and her chief stew, Aesha Scott, have grown very close during their time together on Below Deck Mediterranean. But, there is just one habit of Aesha’s that Sandy can’t get on board with — she’s a loud and vocal eater.
Sandy spoke with The Daily Dish in September, where she revealed that Aesha who is “very consistent with who she is” had a very specific eating habit while they were on board Mustique during Below Deck Med Season 9. “When I was on Motor Yacht Mustique, the stew station was right outside my cabin,” Sandy explained.
“So, when she would take a bit of food, I would hear ‘Mmmm. Ah.’ It almost sounded like she was having sex with the food,” Sandy quipped.Â
But, Sandy has had no problem with Aesha aboard Bravado during Below Deck Med Season 10. “This season, thankfully, the stew station is not right outside my cabin. So that’s a plus,” Sandy noted. “But yeah, she’s great. I don’t have to worry about anything when she’s on board.”

Sandy also doesn’t have to worry about giving relationship advice to Aesha, either. The captain admitted that the Below Deck Med Season 10 chief stew, who is currently engaged to her fiancé, Scott Dobson, has her own unique way of dealing with her long distance relationship while on board.

“It’s interesting. She is so focused on the job, she rarely talks about it,” Sandy, who is married to wife, Leah Shafer, explained to The Daily Dish. “So I said, ‘Hey, how often do you and Scott talk?’ She goes, ‘Maybe twice a week.’ They have a very different relationship. Like, Leah and I talk every day.”

Aesha is close to Sandy. During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on Sept. 29, she confirmed that Sandy and Leah are both invited to her upcoming wedding in March.
During a June 2024 interview with The Daily Dish, Aesha said that her friendship with Sandy is “so beautiful.”
“I think the same respect and love that we show for each other on the show and in the workplace is exactly what we carry out into the world,” she admitted.

“I just feel so lucky that I get to see the full Captain Sandy. There’s so much more to her than just being a captain on a boat — not ‘just’ cause it’s a huge thing — but there’s more to Sandy than that. She’s got this beautiful life and a beautiful partner, and I’m just so happy for everything she has.”
