Cupid Sandy’s arrow strikes again! Captain Sandy Yawn reunited Nathan Gallagher and Gael Cameron on Below Deck Mediterranean Season 10 — even if she didn’t know at the time that she was sparking a chain of events that would eventually reignite their love connection.

When Victoria “V” SanJuan needed some time off to recover from an illness, Captain Sandy tapped Nathan’s ex to temporarily fill in on his shorthanded deck team. As Gael’s return to the Below Deck Med crew came to an end during Season 10, Episode 14, Sandy exclusively explained to The Daily Dish why she was previously unaware of what was happening behind the scenes in her yachties’ personal lives.

“I’m the captain; people are very limited when they share things with me,” she said. “But that doesn’t mean I might walk around a corner and see something and decide not to be a part of that and kind of back up my pace. So many times, I went to round a corner and would see Gael and Nathan. And that’s when I just step back.”

Captain Sandy continued, “However, knowing that I think they split, and now the coming back together, I don’t know, it’s fascinating. Like, some people are just meant to be together. You know what I mean?”

Why Captain Sandy Yawn rehired Gael Cameron

When Captain Sandy previously revealed to Nathan that she was bringing on Gael to fill in for V, her explanation had nothing to do with the bosun’s love life, however.

“I don’t want you to go into this charter without another deckhand,” she told Nathan during Episode 12, pointing out that Gael was “excellent on deck.”

Captain Sandy elaborated to a producer, “For a short fill-in position like this, Gael’s a perfect fit. She’s familiar with how the boat runs, familiar with the team, and I’m really happy she was available. In fact, she’s been working on vessels, so she’s gained more experience. It’s meant to be.”

After Gael got to work, Sandy did not regret her decision either.

“The difference between Gael from last season and this season is her confidence level,” she added in an Episode 13 confessional. “She came back as a badass. If she continues in this career and gains her experience, I could see her running a vessel. And that’s awesome.”

How Gael Cameron ended her return charter with Nathan Gallagher on Below Deck Med

Gael’s final night on Bravado encapsulated her and Nathan’s dynamic throughout the charter that ended during Below Deck Med‘s Dec. 29 episode. While he continued to profess his love and desire to rebuild trust with her, Gael remained hesitant, based on their rocky past.

“By the time she leaves this charter, I’m just hoping we can come to the realization that we are meant to be together,” Nathan declared in a confessional. “I can’t see a future with someone if it’s not Gael. I’d rather be single. I’ll never hurt Gael again. I just want to protect her and make sure she’s happy.”

At multiple points, Nathan also expressed that he did not want Gael to leave the boat and return to Sydney. She reminded him, however, that they “live so far” apart, and she’d heard his promises that they’d “make it work” before.

“He’s done everything right,” she explained to a producer of Nathan’s recent behavior. “But I know reopening that door means things might be really great for another couple months, but maybe not after that again.”

Later, Nathan even attempted to go in for a kiss, but Gael pulled away from him.

“It’s f–kin’ devastating. I might have lost the love of my life forever,” he worried in a confessional. “I genuinely don’t think I have ever cried over a girl before. I just can’t handle it. I’m gonna break down because I know that she’s leaving. It would mean the absolute world to me if Gael stayed in town until I walk off the boat. But there’s a long time. There’s two charters left. I don’t want to be pushy.”

In the meantime, find out what the midseason trailer revealed about what’s still ahead for Nathan and Gael on Below Deck Med Season 10.
