Florida officials said on Wednesday that a woman who was found in a freezer in December died from hypothermia.
In addition to environmental hypothermia, the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner’s Office said ethanol was a contributing factor in the death of Dr. Massiell Garay Sanchez, 32. Sanchez is believed to have spent the night in a Dollar Tree freezer in Miami, where an employee discovered her deceased the next day, according to WTVJ.
Ethanol is commonly found in alcoholic beverages. A toxicology report stated that Sanchez’s ethanol levels were 0.112 percent.
The freezer Sanchez was found in was reportedly located in Dollar Tree’s employee-only area. Police also noted that Sanchez did not make any purchases at the Dollar Tree.
Sanchez was an anesthesiologist from Nicaragua. Her family filed a $50 million wrongful death lawsuit against Dollar Tree in light of her death.
