Chelsea Have Already Been Recommended £80m Signing By John Terry Who Would Be ‘Incredible’
After replacing Thomas Tuchel with Graham Potter in the Stamford Bridge dugout, it quickly became clear that owner Todd Boehly was going to rebuild Chelsea. Which, of course, means several years of significant spending.
The Blues brought in several big-money players over the summer and they are set to continue their shopping spree in the January transfer window, with a focus on adding depth to their midfield. Both N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are out of contract at the end of the season and there is a growing feeling that neither player will extend their deals.
Thus, it is crucial that Potter is able to bring in a new-look midfield, and that could start by signing Rice from their London rivals West Ham. The 23-year-old has earned rave reviews from numerous pundits, notably from Terry. Speaking in April earlier this year to Astro SuperSport, the ex-Blues captain said: “I’m going to get in trouble here for what I say! You know what, Dec obviously loves Chelsea – I think everyone knows that. I think the rejection he had from Chelsea has really helped his career actually.
“For me, looking from the outside, unless West Ham goes and makes a big statement in the summer and go and spends £100million plus and say, ‘We want to keep Dec and we want to bring in top players like you,’ – then I think he’s got a decision to make.
“I think if West Ham goes and spends huge amounts of money, brings in top players, then I think it’s difficult for him to walk away.”
The Chelsea hero then said that Rice would be an ’incredible’ fit for the Blues, which could be enough to convince both player and club to make the deal work.
Rice’s price tag has ruled numerous clubs out of the running to sign him previously, with David Moyes claiming that it would take £ 150 million for West Ham to part ways with their club captain.
However, The Mirror has reported that an offer in the region of £80m could test the resolve of the Hammers given that the midfielder rebuffed a contract offer from the club previously.
