CHICAGO (TCN) — Police arrested a 26-year-old woman they allege stabbed her 7-year-old son over the weekend because he made a mess in the house after she cleaned it.
The Chicago Police Department said in a statement that Llovana Torres was taken into custody May 17 at 9:50 a.m., less than two hours after she allegedly injured her son with a knife.
According to Torres’ court proffer, Torres woke up on May 17 and found that her son “caused a mess around the house despite her having spent all night cleaning before bed.” She became “angry” with the boy, who was identified with the initial V., and started hitting him. The victim reportedly ran into the kitchen and hid in a cabinet under the sink. Torres allegedly tried to pull him out but was unable to. She reportedly grabbed a knife and stabbed him “until she heard V. scream ‘ouch.'”
Torres reportedly took her son to her mother’s apartment in the same building because she saw he was bleeding. The proffer says the grandmother saw the stab wound in V.’s abdomen, as well as “flesh hanging out of the side.” V.’s cousin was also reportedly at the grandmother’s apartment and allegedly heard Torres explain that she threatened to “cut or stab” V. if he did not come out of the cabinet.
The mother ordered Torres to take her son to the hospital, so she transported him to Evanston Hospital. Staff airlifted V. to Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago, where he underwent surgery for a ruptured diaphragm and other stab wounds. Following the procedure, he was placed on a chest tube and ventilator.
After she was arrested, Torres allegedly called her mother and asked her “to not tell anyone what had happened and to tell a different story.”
According to the proffer, Torres informed medical staff that she stabbed her son because she was “waving the knife around” while attempting to find him in the cabinet.
Police booked her on one count of aggravated battery of a child under 13.
