SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (TCN) — A woman was allegedly beaten to death with a hammer by her husband while her son dialed 911.
On Jan. 7, officers responded to a home for a domestic incident report, the Springfield Police Department announced in a statement. Officers found Suzette Flores, 47, dead in the home.
Flores’ son, who has not been named by authorities, had reportedly dialed 911 while his mother was allegedly being beaten by his father. The Mirror reports the child called at approximately 11:20 p.m. He told dispatchers, “I need somebody, my dad is hitting my mother, I need a police officer.” He went on to say that he was standing by the garage and was very scared. “I do not know what he is doing to my momma. I hear banging; she is not yelling or anything anymore. It is just quiet. I do not hear her anymore. I do not know what he did to her.”
While officers were on the way, the child reportedly remained on the phone with dispatchers and said, “They have been doing this forever, and I am tired of it,” the Mirror reports.
KY3 reports Flores had been beaten to death and a hammer was found at the scene. The Mirror reports the hammer was covered in blood and tissue.
Officers identified Felipe Ayala III as the suspect, police said. He was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Flores and was booked into the Greene County Jail.
According to KY3, a neighbor had heard a woman screaming “please stop” in the house and he saw a man beating something in the garage.
An arrest affidavit obtained by the Mirror states Ayala was waving a knife around before the incident and before he began beating Flores, he allegedly told her she was making him do it, and then he threatened the children and told them they were next.
The Inquistr reports that Ayala has a criminal history that includes property damage, drug charges, assault, and domestic assault.
A GoFundMe set up for Flores’ children calls Flores “a unique soul, full of love and laughter. She was always the life of the party, fearless, passionate, funny, beautiful, strong minded, and that’s just the beginning. She loved hard and wanted nothing but a good life for her and her boys.”
Law & Crime reports Ayala is being held without bond while awaiting his next court date.
