On Friday, North Carolina police arrested a former teacher for allegedly using children’s pictures to produce sexually explicit images.
Richard Upright, 56, was a teacher at Vandalia Christian School when Google provided seven tips to Guilford County police about images posted to his Google Drive account. An investigation revealed that Upright took photos of students and superimposed their faces on nude and other sexual pictures, WGHP reported.
Upright allegedly used AI to edit the images before saving them on his Google Drive account. Authorities reportedly discovered a total of 111 illicit images in Upright’s account, though it is unclear whether all of the victims were his students.
According to WMFY, a Guilford County police detective testified that they began investigating Upright in December 2025 after his Google Drive account was flagged. The IP was allegedly traced back to the then-teacher’s home, located less than a mile from the school.
Upright was fired from his job after he was charged with second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. His bond was set at $750,000.
