Connecticut Woman Arrested After Shooting, Standoff at Newtown Home – Crime Online

A 32-year-old Connecticut woman surrendered early Monday morning after holding police at bay for five hours following at shooting in Newtown Sunday night.

Meghan Gouveia has been charged with first-degree assault, unlawful discharge of a firearm, criminal use of a firearm, two counts of risk of injury to a minor, first degree reckless endangerment, and negligent storage of a firearm, Newtown Police said.

Newtown police said that Gouveia was taken into custody  just before 1 a.m.

Police Lt. Scott Smith said a 911 call brought officers to the home at about 8 p.m., and they found the caller suffering from multiple gunshots on the front porch. Officers brought the victim to safety as Gouveia retreated inside the home.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Danbury Hospital and was listed in stable condition.

Smith said Gouveia surrendered peacefully just before 1 a.m. She has been ordered held on a $1.5 million bond.
