A 24-year-old Massachusetts man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting an Uber driver and stealing her car.
Christopher Dawkins has been charged with carjacking, strangulation/suffocation, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and receiving a stolen motor vehicle, the Boston Police Department said.
Police said they were called to the scene near Boston’s South End and found the “highly distressed” victim, who said she had picked up the suspect in Cambridge.
“The assault occurred when the vehicle stopped at the Massachusetts Ave. and Columbus Ave. intersection, where she felt a cord or wire tighten around her neck, obstructing her breathing,” police said.
A witness also said they saw the victim struggling with someone in the backseat of her vehicle and then saw the victim escape and scream for help. The suspect moved into the driver’s seat and fled the scene.
The victim’s husband used the Find My app on her phone, which was still in her vehicle, to track it several miles south, where police stopped the vehicle and took Dawkins into custody, Boston 25 reported.
