A North Carolina man was arrested on Thursday for attacking his son’s alleged killer in court.
Marion McKnight, 21, was accused of killing Jamariyae Dixon, 16, in May during a shooting at Stroud Park Court that left three other people wounded. McKnight, who was free on a $100,000 bond, appeared at the Meck County courthouse for a bond revocation — when Dixon’s father, Shaheem Snype, attacked him outside of a fifth-floor courtroom, according to WSOC.
A spokesperson for Mothers Advocating for Real Change and Unwavering Support (M.A.R.C.U.S.), a nonprofit, told WCNC that McKnight had taunted Dixon’s family following his release. McKnight was in court on Thursday for violating the terms of his release.
WSOC reported that a police officer used a Taser to stop Snype from attacking McKnight. While McKnight was hospitalized, Snype was charged with misdemeanor assault.
“I smiled. That was the first time I had a real smile since my son been gone,” Dixon’s mother told WANE, recounting how she felt after seeing video of Thursday’s incident.
In addition to Dixon’s murder, McKnight is charged with two counts of attempted murder. His bond hearing was rescheduled in light of Thursday’s altercation.
