The father of 7-month-old Emmanuel Haro was sentenced Monday to more than 30 year to life in prison after he pleaded guilty last month to killing the boy.
Jake Haro, 32, pleaded guilty to one count each of murder, assault on a child under eight causing death, and filing a false police reported, the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office said. Judge Gary Polk sentenced him to 25 years to life on the murder charge, 180 days for filing a false report, six years on the assault charge, and eight months for being felon in possession of a gun.
The terms are to be served consecutively, and he was given credit for 551 days for time served. He must also pay $10,000 in restitution.
“The lies told in this case only deepened the tragedy of Emmanuel’s death,” Riverside County District Attorney Mike Hestrin said. “While today’s sentence represents a measure of accountability for Jake Haro, our office will continue to seek justice as the case against his co-defendant moves forward.”
Haro’s wife, 41-year-old Rebecca Haro, has maintained her not guilty plea so far and has a hearing scheduled for January 21, 2026.
The Haros were arrested on August 22, a week after Rebecca Haro claimed she had been attacked in a parking lot in Yucaipa and the baby taken, as CrimeOnline reported. Police quickly found inconsistencies in the story.
Despite extensive searches — at times aided by Jake Haro — the boy’s body has not been found.
Haro abruptly changed his plea from not guilty on October 16.
