With Dr. Heavenly Kimes’ political campaign in full swing on Married to Medicine, Dr. Damon Kimes shared some surprising thoughts on his wife’s run for office.

While on the couples’ trip to Jamaica that kicked off during Season 12, Episode 11, the cast and their partners took a break from all of the fun in the sun to give back to the local community through a youth-centered medical mission. During some downtime, several of the men discussed the importance of visibility and representation in inspiring hope for the kids’ future careers.

“I just feel like if you’re meant to do something, it just seems like it just keeps falling in place,” Dr. Damon weighed in. “Like with Heavenly doing the political stuff, I’m not interested in her doing that — at all. But, you know, like, if you feel led to do something, just keep going.”

A bit later, he added, “It just sort of came, and now I’m like, you know what? Alright, I’m gonna support you 100 percent.”

In a joint confessional with Heavenly, Damon elaborated, “I don’t want her gone more. I want to be around her. I want her around me. But sometimes things happen because they’re meant to happen.”

That’s when a flashback from earlier in the season rolled, showing Heavenly asking him if he knew she was “serious about running” for political office. After Damon answered in the affirmative, she added, “I’m really happy I have your support, I really am.”

What political office is Dr. Heavenly Kimes running for?

Earlier on Married to Medicine Season 12, Dr. Heavenly took viewers inside the launch of her campaign for the Georgia House of Representatives. She has since suspended that bid and is currently a candidate to represent Georgia’s 13th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives in the May 2026 Democratic primary.

Why Dr. Heavenly Kimes decided to run for office

Dr. Heavenly, who works as an Atlanta-area dentist, also previously explained the reason behind her decision to enter the world of politics in an exclusive interview with The Daily Dish.

“I think it was needed,” she shared. “A lot of people asked me [to run], and I prayed about it. And God put it on my heart to do, and I think I can definitely be a voice for the people.”

Heavenly also expressed her hope that the Georgia voters would be as receptive to her sharing a behind-the-scenes look at her life on Married to Medicine as the patients at her Smiles by Dr. Heavenly clients have been.

“I think that all publicity is good publicity,” the mother of three declared. “My patients watch the show, and they love me on the show, because I tell the truth and I’m real.”

During her Episode 7 campaign launch speech, Heavenly also cited son Damon Kimes Jr.’s arrest in 2023 as inspiring her political bid. She told the crowd that “police violence” is the “number one reason for death in our young Black men,” between the ages of 23 and 27.

“Our son came home safely, but so many boys do not,” she remarked, while flanked by Dr. Damon and her campaign manager, Quad Webb.

“I’m not the type of person to sit idly by and not do anything,” Heavenly added in a confessional. “I think that God has challenged me. And if I have the opportunity to change the law, then I want to be a part of it.”
