A South Carolina woman has been charged with the murder of her father, whose body was found this week at his home after being reported missing in June.
Neighbors said James Wheeler, 78, had only recently moved into the Edgefield County home where his daughter, Monica Lee Wheeler-Walter, 57, had lived for years, although the home was in Wheeler’s name, WRDW reported.
It’s not clear why police did not search the property when Wheeler was reported missing, but they said they believe his body has been in place since that time. They said family cooperated with the investigation early on, but little progress was made until the past three weeks.
Wheeler-Walton is charged with murder and graves/destruction, desecration or removal of human remains. Officials also said more arrests and charges are expected.
Neighbors said Wheeler had moved to the property in recent months, parking his camper on the lawn. They said the camper had been put up for sale in recent weeks.
