Dock Worker Attacked in Viral Montgomery Riverfront Brawl Video Is Charged With Assault – Crime Online

An Alabama man who was seen being attacked in a viral video from August will be arraigned on assault charges this month.

ABC News reported that Dameion Pickett, lead deckhand of the Harriott II, was formally charged with third-degree assault on October 27. Though Montogomery police identified Pickett as a victim, the complainant in his assault case is Zachery Shipman — who was also charged with assault.

“Neither the City nor the Montgomery Police Department filed these charges,” Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed and Montgomery Police Chief Darryl Albert said in a statement issued to the Montgomery Advertiser.

According to the news outlet, Pickett had asked the owners of a private pontoon boat to move as it was docked in the riverboat’s spot. Passengers on the riverboat filmed passengers on the pontoon boat assaulting Pickett. The altercation escalated with other riverboat employees and other pontoon passengers getting involved.

Two defendants, Richard Roberts and Mary Todd, pleaded guilty in late October. Todd was ordered to complete anger management for a harassment charge, while Roberts was sentenced to a four-month suspended sentence which he must serve on the weekends for assault.

Charges are pending for Pickett, Shipman, and Reggie Ray — who was reportedly filmed hitting a woman in the head with a folding chair during the August 5 incident. Pickett’s arraignment is scheduled for November 21.
