A man in Tennessee allegedly shot his neighbor to death this week after they squabbled over dog poop lingering in their shared backyard.
Stefen White, 34, has been charged with felony second-degree murder, according to Knoxville Police Department records obtained by Law&Crime on Thursday. White is accused of shooting and killing his neighbor on Dec. 23, just before 5 p.m.
The Knoxville Police Department said White and his victim “got into a verbal altercation” over White’s “not cleaning up after his dogs pooped in the yard.”
Both White and his neighbor, who was not identified by police, live on the same property with a shared yard.
White claimed the man he shot had punched him in the face before things escalated. But police said witness interviews failed to corroborate that claim.
“The defendant pulled a handgun on the victim and shot him in the chest, causing the victim’s death,” an affidavit states.
White is currently detained and arrest records show he was booked on Christmas Eve with a bond set at $100,000.
An attorney for White was not immediately able to be reached Thursday. His next court appearance is slated for Jan. 11.
