Florida police arrested three people Wednesday in connection with Tuesday’s shooting death of a pizza delivery driver.
West Palm Beach police officers who responded to reports of a shooting found Domino’s delivery driver Tommie Anderson III, 33, on the ground and bleeding from his neck and arm. WBPF reported that Anderson was breathing at the scene, but he was pronounced dead at a hospital about an hour later.
Anderson’s father revealed to the news outlet that the deadly shooting occurred on his son’s second day on the job.
WBPF reported that Anderson was shot moments after delivering a pizza in the area. Surveillance footage allegedly showed a driver wearing a round, hockey-styled mask pulling up to Anderson’s car, which had a Domino’s sign on the roof.
Five hours after the shooting, Florida Highway Patrol pulled over the suspect’s vehicle. Suspects Elijsha Wingfield, 25, Avianna Kerr Williams, 25, and Marcus Williams, 29, were in the car — in addition to two rifles and a 9mm pistol, according to WPTV.
Wingfield allegedly admitted to shooting Anderson amid a robbery attempt, explaining that he needed the money because he was waiting for a paycheck he did not receive.
According to WPTV, Wingfield said he and Williams were passengers and Kerr Williams was the driver. Wingfield allegedly recalled the car approaching Anderson’s car when he said, “Let’s see what he’s got!”
Wingfield claimed that he fired three shots at Anderson — who had his hands up during the robbery — because he feared Anderson was going to shoot him. However, Williams said he did not shoot Anderson because he knew he was unarmed, WBPF reported.
Wingfield, Williams, and Kerr Williams are charged with first-degree murder. They remain jailed without bond.
