Drunk Arizona Woman Slams Head-on into Minivan, Killing 3; Moves to Utah After Crash – Crime Online

A woman who slammed head-on into a van carrying seven people in 2024 has been arrested and charged with multiple felonies, including murder and an aggravated DUI.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety said the crash took place shortly after 2 p.m. on December 7, 2024, on US 93 in Congress. Amy Lynn Mickelson, 48, “was impaired when she drove her BMW sedan across the center line and struck a Toyota Sienna minivan head-on,” the department said.

Three people in the van were pronounced dead at the scene, the 51-year-old driver and 17- and 44-year-old passengers, KPHO reported. Mickelson was hospitalized with serious injuries.

The remaining four passengers in the van — children between the ages of 5 and 16 — were taken to hospitals with serious injuries, DPS said.

After the crash, Mickelson fled Arizona for Utah, where she “established residence.” DPS requested assistance from the US Marshals Service, and she was arrested on March 19 outside a convenience store in Salt Lake City. She’s being held without bond in the Weber County jail while she awaits extradition to Yavapai County in Arizona.

Investigators did not provide a timeline describing when Mickelson was released from the hospital and when she fled to Utah.

She has been charged with three counts of second-degree murder, seven counts of aggravated assault, two counts of felony endangerment, one count of criminal damage, and one count of aggravated DUI.
